The New York Knicks has Obi Toppin being their go to guy in this year’s NBA Summer in Las Vegas. Obi Toppin hasn’t disappointed the staff looking great so far. He has averaged 23.5 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game in four games so far.
Due to Covid last season and no NBA Summer League Toppin wasn’t able to showcase his talents. This past rookie he averaged 4.2 points per game and 2.2 rebounds per game in 62 games played. Had some nagging injuries that set him back as well. In addition, he averaged 11.6 minutes per game.
Once again he will be coming off the bench for the Knicks. Even playing behind Julius Randle the Knicks will expect for him to really improve his game. This summer Toppin is showing why the Knicks drafted him as the number eight overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
The Knicks will need to find plays in which he can be explosive at the fast break. Developing an inside game which they will need for him to score. In addition, look for Toppin get more playing time from coach Tom Thibodeau.
Toppin show signs of his potential when the regular season came to an end. Then, in the playoffs Toppin show how useful he was and exciting player. In the playoffs his minutes increased to 13. You saw that his confidence grew even more when the opportunity that was presenting to him.
If the Knicks don’t add any other star players I see him being as one of the top three players. I know he’s been in trade talks for star players in return. If you keep Toppin, look him to get better as he shown this summer so far.
