North Carolina basketball signee Simeon Wilcher requested a release from his national letter of intent.
“After careful consideration, I’ve decided to ask North Carolina for a release from my national letter of intent,” the Wilcher family announced in a statement. “We will not be commenting further and thank UNC for the opportunity to play in the ACC.”
Welcher the 6-foot-4 prospect from Roselle, N.J. originally committed to UNC back in October of 2021. He has not yet announced a commitment to another school.
His decommitment comes right after when Elliot Cadeau reclassify to join North Carolina in the 2023 class. That leaves forward Zayden High and Cadeau are UNC’s only two incoming freshmen.
Once again North Carolina roster is going to look different next season following the departures of Caleb Love to Arizona, Tyler Nickel to Virginia Tech, Dontrez Styles to Georgetown, Justin McKoy to Hawaii and Puff Johnson to Penn State.
After going to the national championship in 2022; North Carolina finished the 2023 campaign with a 20-13 record and missed the NCAA tournament.
