The 19 year old 7 foot 4 phenom, Victor Wembanyama is the NBA’s next big generational talent with hype bigger than the likes of Lebron James and Zion Williamson. For the Metropolitans 92 team this season, he put up 21.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
His best performance came against the Limoges CSP where he posted 33 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and an impressive 3 blocks on the defensive end. His performance continued to add to the legitimacy of his generational storyline.
What makes Victor such a generational talent is all the strengths that he displayed while playing for Metropolitans 92.
Did I mention that he has an 8 foot wingspan? The defensive capabilities that Wembanyama displays with his massive wingspan allows him to cover a lot of areas on the court. His length swallows attackers even when he is beaten, which lets him recover in time for the block or contest. In the switch heavy era that the NBA is currently in, Wembanyama can display elite level defensive capabilities.
On the offensive side, Victor displayed his offensive versatility and creativity, showcasing the one-legged jumper on numerous occasions and catch and shoot ability. He finishes strong in transition despite his slim frame which is a trait that usually takes years to develop for similar players of his body type. Even without the ball, he knows where to be and relocates to another spot off ball especially in pnr situations.
With Victor scheduled to play through May, it’s perfect that the NBA Draft Lottery is mid May so we can see which team would have the opportunity to select the projected 1st overall pick in this year’s draft while he is still playing at a high level.
