The Class of 1983 was highly know with stars such as Pearl Washington, Mark Jackson, Kenny Smith, and Olden Polynice who has outstanding careers in the NBA. There was a player who level up to the competition night in and night is Kenny Hutchinson.
Kenny “Hutch” another point guard from the Bronx, New York. Hutchinson had a crossover and he was a tough scorer. He played for the Riverside Church Hawks who held his own. He enrolled at Benjamin Franklin in Harlem in 1979.
At Franklin, Hutchinson grew into a star in which he played alongside with Walter Berry. He helped lead Franklin High to the 1981-82 PSAL City and New York State Federation Championship. In June 1982. Franklin High closed down (later be Manhattan Center).
Kenny “Hutch” transferred to Martin Luther King HS in midtown Manhattan for his senior year. Also his High School head coach Stan Diner accepted a coaching job there as well.
In 1982 and 1983 he was first team All-City. In addition, a second team Parade All American and one of the five best players in the Class of 1983. “Hutch” played his college basketball at Arkansas and was a role player for the program.
Even so “Hutch” didn’t played in the NBA he was still a NYC Hoop Legend. He earned his stamp at playing against the best and beating the best. He is also one of the great Point Guards to play from New York City. We thank you for the great show you put on.
