Greg “Boo” Harvey was that player on the playgrounds and local gym who will give you the business. Harvey was a scoring machine and break down the team opposition. He took his talents to Andrew Jackson and play for the legendary Chuck Granby.
Harvey started four seasons on the varsity team. He and Rob Cornegy led the Hickories to the 1982 PSAL City Championship before losing to Ben Franklin led by Walter Berry and Kenny Hutchinson.
Once again Harvey helped Jackson reach the PSAL City championship game in 1984. They went up against Truman HS led by his Gaucho teammate Rod Strickland in which Jackson fell short to Truman.
Then in 1985 he was one of the best 40 players in the country and he help Jackson dominated the PSAL and won the City Championship beating Kennedy. Harvey averaged 38 points per game as a senior in 1984–85 and finished his career with a school record 2,039 points.
“Boo” was planning to attend Syracuse, but due to him struggling in the classroom in which he was ineligible. He will need to attend the JUCO route and enroll at San Jacinto in Texas. Harvey help contribute to San Jacinto winning back-to-back Region XIV titles and compiled an overall record of 73–1 in his two year span.
Harvey committed to St John’s to take over the spot that Mark Jackson had. Also, he bought his backcourt partner at “San-Jac” name Michael Porter. Harvey averaged 11.9 and 4.8 assists in 27 games. In the 1988-89 which was supposed to be his senior campaign he was academically ineligible in which he sat out.
Harvey returned in the 1989-90 season and was in the starting lineup in which he increased his scoring to 16.5 points per game. He was first team All Big East that season.
After his college career he played overseas for five seasons. Harvey will go down as one of the best point guards in New York City. We salute to Boo Harvey to being one of NYC’s elite.
