Kenny “Eggman” Williamson The Godfather of New York City Coaching

Kenny Williamson aka “Eggman” was a highly-regarded figure around the basketball world.  Worked as an Assistant General Manager for the Memphis Grizzlies. He was also a scout for the Charlotte Bobcats and New York Knicks; spent time as an assistant coach at St. John’s, Seton Hall, Columbia and Louisville universities. Williamson served as an associate head coach at Iona and Florida State.

Eggman played at Laurinburg Prep in North Carolina and attended City College in which he played. Then he became an icon in the coaching ranks. He started Riverside Church in the mid 70’s under Ernie Lorch as an assistant in which he coach the best players in the NYC such as Scooter McCray, Kelly Tripucka, Steve Burtt, Gary Springer, and some top notch players. Also he was a well-known fixture at Rucker Park in Harlem and featured in the documentary ‘On Hallowed Ground,’ on the Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park.

Also he was know around the New York City Grassroots Basketball circuit as well. He was a great recruiter and a tough minded coach who will get the best out of his players. He mentor and guided young aspiring people who want to get into the coaching ranks.

I got to know “Eggman” for over 25 years and was one of the great guys that I’ve known. When I get to see him I go out my way and talk to him for a moment. Also was a fun person and a guy who had a great sense of humor. On November 13, 2012 Kenny Williamson passed away at the age of 65.

It hasn’t been the same going to see a top notch basketball event and him not being there. We salute Kenny “Eggman” Williamson and thank you the work you did for the New York City Basketball community. Rest In Heaven my friend you are truly missed!
