The Minnesota Lynx continued to prove why they are among the WNBA’s elite teams, cruising to a convincing 99-83 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday night.
Despite the absence of two of the league’s biggest stars, fans were treated to a breakout performance from a rising young talent. The Sparks were without Kelsey Plum, who recently exploded for a career-high 43 points against Phoenix, while Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier, last season’s WNBA MVP runner-up, was also sidelined.
With both stars watching from the bench in street clothes, rookie sensation Olivia Miles seized the spotlight.
Miles delivered the best performance of her young WNBA career, finishing with 31 points while shooting an incredible 12-for-15 from the field. She attacked the basket with confidence, knocked down open looks, and consistently found ways to impact the game. Every time the Sparks needed a spark, Miles answered the call.
However, Minnesota’s depth and balance ultimately proved too much to overcome. The Lynx showcased the team-oriented basketball that has made them one of the league’s top contenders this season. Their offense flowed efficiently, their defense forced difficult shots, and they controlled the game from start to finish.
The victory further solidified Minnesota’s position near the top of the WNBA standings and highlighted why many consider them the second-best team in the league. Even without their superstar leader, the Lynx demonstrated their ability to win convincingly through teamwork, execution, and depth.
Minnesota now concludes its West Coast road trip with a matchup against the expansion Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center in San Francisco. The Lynx will look to carry their momentum into the final game of the swing, while the Valkyries hope to make a statement against one of the WNBA’s premier teams.
If Wednesday night’s performance was any indication, the Lynx are poised to remain a major championship contender as the season progresses.
