The Dallas Wings earned one of their biggest road victories of the season Friday night in Los Angeles, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 104-96 behind a historic performance from rookie sensation Paige Bueckers and a scoring explosion from Arike Ogunbowale.
For much of the evening, the game was a tightly contested battle. Through three quarters, the Sparks held a slim 78-77 advantage as both teams traded baskets in a fast-paced offensive showcase.
Dallas stayed within striking distance thanks to the interior play of Teaira McCowan and the timely scoring of Maddy Siegrist and Luisa Geiselsöder, while Ogunbowale kept the Wings close with several clutch three-pointers. The Sparks countered with strong performances from Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby, keeping the home crowd energized throughout the first three quarters.
However, the fourth quarter belonged to Dallas.
The Wings elevated their play on both ends of the floor, outscoring Los Angeles 27-18 over the final ten minutes. Dallas tightened its defense, controlled the pace, and knocked down key shots to pull away late and secure the impressive road victory.
Bueckers delivered one of the finest all-around performances of her young WNBA career. The former UConn star tied a franchise record with 14 assists, showcasing the elite court vision and playmaking ability that made her one of the most highly anticipated prospects in recent memory. Time and time again, Bueckers found open teammates for easy baskets while controlling the flow of the offense.
Meanwhile, Ogunbowale erupted for a season-high 30 points, knocking down six three-pointers and repeatedly delivering in crucial moments. Her ability to stretch the floor and create her own shot proved to be the difference as Dallas pulled away in the final period.
For Los Angeles, Kelsey Plum made a strong return from injury, scoring 27 points and providing a major offensive spark. Despite her efforts, the Sparks could not match Dallas’ fourth-quarter surge and were forced to absorb a tough home loss.
The victory showcased the growing chemistry between Bueckers and Ogunbowale, a backcourt combination that continues to become one of the most exciting duos in the WNBA. If Friday night’s performance is any indication, the Wings may be finding their rhythm at the right time.
Dallas leaves Los Angeles with a statement win, while Bueckers adds another milestone to what is already shaping up to be a memorable rookie campaign.
