Texas Star Tre Johnson Declares for 2025 NBA Draft After Historic Freshman Season

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Longhorns standout Tre Johnson is officially heading to the next level. The 6-foot-6 guard announced on NBA Today with Malika Andrews that he will declare for the 2025 NBA Draft, following an outstanding freshman season that turned heads across the country.

“I’ll be declaring for the NBA Draft,” Johnson said during the broadcast. “I’d like to thank my family, first and foremost, for keeping me grounded and all the coaches that have coached me up to this moment, all the trainers I’ve worked out with that helped me get to this point and all the teammates that I’ve had. … It’s just great to be here.”

Tre Johnson, one of the most electric scorers in college basketball this season, averaged 19.9 points per game, leading the Texas Longhorns in scoring. His total of 658 points set a new benchmark for Texas freshmen, capped by a season-high 39-point explosion against Arkansas.

A consistent threat beyond the arc, Johnson shot 39.7% from three-point range, showcasing a smooth stroke and deep range that make him one of the top shooting guards in the 2025 NBA Draft class.

His stellar play earned him several honors, including:

SEC Freshman Player of the Year

All-SEC Second Team

SEC All-Freshman Team

“It’s somewhat a childhood dream,” Johnson said. “When I was a kid, I didn’t think about being number one or being lottery; I just really thought about getting a chance — being one of those 60 to have a chance. But to be a lottery pick, that’s even better for sure.”

As a projected lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Tre Johnson brings elite scoring ability, court vision, and athleticism to the next level. His combination of size, shooting, and high basketball IQ positions him as one of the most exciting guard prospects in this year’s draft class.

Keep an eye on Tre Johnson as the 2025 NBA Draft approaches — this Longhorn is ready to make waves in the league.
