The Madison Square Broncos top players of all time

The Madison Square Broncos were one of the best AAU programs in the New York City area back in the 80’s. Yes they competed with Riverside and the Gauchos and they helped their student athletes go to major Division one colleges and played in the NBA. The program was directed by Paul “Doc” Necelli RIP (photo). Other NYC star studded players such as Kenny Anderson and Pearl Washington started with Madison before branching out to other programs. 

Here is the best players:

Jayson Williams – The former NBA All Star and St John’s standout who star with the Broncos in Citywide league and other leagues in the New York and New Jersey. 

Alaa Abdelnaby – The former Bloomfield HS and Duke standout played five seasons in the NBA with Portland, Milwaukee, Boston, and Sacramento and played in the CBA and overseas. 

Kenny “Mouse” McFadden – McFadden attend Seward Park and rarely played. Mouse made his make on the playground in Lower Manhattan. Also made his mark with Madison which help him land a scholarship to Cleveland State. He helped lead the program to the Sweet 16 in 1986. He scored 2,256 points for the Vikings from 1985 – 1989, which he still holds Cleveland State record for career points scored.

Duane Causwell – Causwell played for Madison during his AAU tenure. He was an All City player at Cardoza HS. The 7-0 Center played for Temple where he was known for his block shot and rebounding. Played 11 seasons in the NBA with Sacramento and Miami. 

Malloy “The Future” Nesmith – Nesmith played with toughness had great handles and a prolific scorer. He was a standout for Madison and was an All City player at James Monroe HS. Played his JUCO ball at Jacksonville Junior College in Texas and transfer to Utah State. He became a famous Streetball player in the EBC and held his own. 

Shane Drisom – Played with Madison and was lengthy and had a great wingspan. A great defender and shot blocker. Played at Westinghouse HS in Brooklyn and went to Central Connecticut State on the college level. 

Rob Hockett – Hockett played with Madison in which he became a standout in the program. Never played on his high school team. However he played at Jacksonville Junior College in Texas and played at University of New Orleans. Hockett had a short stint with the Harlem Globetrotters.

Troy Murray – Troy Murray and Molloy Nesmith ran the Broncos backcourt and they put on a spectacular performance in the summer league in New York City. Murray will drop you 20 points per game. He played at Gompers HS in the Bronx and was an All Bronx selection. 

John Arnold – Arnold was another tough player in the NYC playgrounds. He played with heart and toughness. An All City at Manhattan Center and took his talents to St. Francis College in Brooklyn. 

Glen Harding – Harding was a role player who contributed for Madison. He was the guy who came with it and helped Madison win games. He was an All City players and helped Lincoln HS win the 1986 PSAL City Championship. Harding went on to play at Maine Central Institute and went on to Fairleigh Dickinson University for four seasons. 

Hassan Ducombe – Hassan had a great inside presence for Madison. He played hard each game and will provide the team the dirty work. Went to Westinghouse HS and was All City and played college ball at the University of Pennsylvania. RIP to Hassan

Marlon Miller – Miller made his mark on the inside presence and he was a great rebounder and had had a high vertical leap. He played at Power Memorial in his Freshman year and transfer to McClancy after the school closed. Miller was an All Brooklyn of Diocese then went on to play at St Joseph’s for four seasons. 

We give the Madison Square Broncos there flowers as well. They were priceless memories and they played in the top tournaments such as The Golden Hoops, Citywide, Elmcor Super 8, and other top tournaments in the Tristate Area. Doc Necelli will teach you not basketball skills but life skills as well. He was fun to be around with and his famous word will be remembered “Hey Pal”
