David Cain a 6-foot-0 point guard from Harlem NYC known as the director. He is a quick passer with the ball. In addition, he bought toughness and leadership to a team.
Cain grew up on 120th Street and 5th Ave in Harlem. He was involved in several Milbank tournaments and played with the Gauchos AAU program. He enrolled at Stevenson High in the Bronx.
David Cain led Stevenson to back to back PSAL championships in 1988 and 1989. Cain was first team All City in his junior and senior year. Then he took his game to St John’s University.
In his senior campaign at St John’s in blend in the starting lineup. He averaged 7.1 assists per game and 11.4 points per game. He was selected first team All Big East in 1993. Cain wasn’t drafted and went into New York Knicks camp in 1993 and made last cut on the preseason roster.
In Cain’s professional career he averaged 8.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game in two years with the Long Island Surf, Rochester Renegades and Westchester Stallions in the USBL.
Cain will be remembered as tough as nails and a player who hold his own. Also he was one of the best assist players to come out of New York City.
