Basketball runs in the bloodline of Jase Richardson, and he’s proving early on that he’s ready to carve his own path. The 6-foot-3 freshman shooting guard at Michigan State has wasted no time making an impact, already averaging the second-most points per game (9.2) on the team. His scoring ability is special—not just because of the numbers, but because of how he gets them.
Richardson became the program’s third freshman since 2010 to score in double figures in his first two games, and he did it as the only one to come off the bench. His game is dynamic, built on high-level athleticism and a skill set that makes him an efficient three-level scorer. He attacks the rim with explosiveness, knocks down shots from deep, and has the ability to create off the dribble. Beyond scoring, he’s a playmaking guard who knows how to facilitate for his teammates, making him an offensive threat in multiple ways.
On the defensive end, Richardson brings just as much intensity. He’s a solid perimeter defender who can get into passing lanes, force turnovers, and use his athleticism to disrupt opponents. His ability to get steals and push in transition makes him a two-way weapon, a valuable trait for a young player at the college level.
Basketball success is nothing new to the Richardson family. His father, Jason Richardson, was a star at Michigan State before a long NBA career, and his brother, Jax Richardson, is already making a name for himself as a five-star small forward in the class of 2026 at Columbus High School in Miami, FL. Jase, however, is proving that his own journey is just as promising.
With his combination of athleticism, skill, and basketball IQ, Richardson is a name to watch—not just at Michigan State, but beyond. If his early performances are any indication, he’s only getting started.
