Ham’s job security was in jeopardy following the Los Angeles Lakers’ early exit in this year’s NBA playoffs. Last season they were in the Western Conference finals and got swept to this same Denver Nuggets squad.
On social media Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka thanked Ham for his “many accomplishments achieved over the past two seasons including last year’s remarkable run to the Western Conference Finals.” “While this was a difficult decision to make, it is the best course of action following a full review of the season,” added Pelinka, who also serves as vice president of basketball operations. “This organization will remain unwavering in its commitment to deliver championship-caliber basketball to Lakers fans around the world.”
Tyronne Lue and J.J. Redick’s names have been rumored as the next coaching candidate for the Lakers job in which ESPN has reported. Lue and Redick both have ties to NBA superstar Lebron James. Lue coached James during his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers and won an NBA championship, while Redick is James’ podcast co-host.
Now with Ham gone, the Lakers will need to be mindful on who they pick as their next head coach. They will need to establish on what LeBron’s future is going to be. How they going to develop around their star players of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It will be interesting on who will take this Lakers job and what will be the next step, time will tell.
