Five-Star 2027 Forward Moussa Kamissoko Commits to Syracuse

Syracuse has landed a major building block for its future with five-star Class of 2027 forward Moussa Kamissoko announcing his commitment to the Orange.

Kamissoko, a 6-foot-7 forward who plays with the PSA Cardinals and Spire Academy (Ohio), announced his decision Friday on Instagram. He is expected to arrive at Syracuse for the 2027-28 college basketball season.

The commitment gives head coach Gerry McNamara his first pledge in the 2027 recruiting class and gives Syracuse a talented wing around whom it can continue building the class.

Syracuse Wins a Competitive Recruitment

Kamissoko attracted attention from several major programs during his recruitment. He visited Syracuse and Illinois before making his decision.

He had also scheduled a visit to UConn for this weekend but canceled the trip, along with planned visits to Louisville and Baylor. Virginia and Oklahoma State were among the other programs involved in his recruitment.

Ultimately, Syracuse separated itself.

One of the biggest factors was Kamissoko’s connection with McNamara. The former Syracuse standout understands what it is like to be a highly recruited player and could relate to Kamissoko’s experience.

Kamissoko also came away impressed with McNamara’s relationship with his players, the energy surrounding the program and Syracuse’s plan for his development. During his visit, he saw a detailed practice environment and could envision himself fitting into a program that has traditionally featured talented, versatile wings.

The Dome Made an Impression

There are few environments in college basketball quite like playing inside the JMA Wireless Dome, and that was another part of Syracuse that stood out during Kamissoko’s visit.

Even before playing his first game there, Kamissoko could picture what it would be like stepping onto the court in front of a packed Syracuse crowd.

For an elite prospect deciding where to spend his college career, that type of atmosphere can make a lasting impression. Kamissoko will have an opportunity to play on a large stage in front of one of college basketball’s most passionate fan bases.

What Kamissoko Can Bring to Syracuse

At 6-foot-7, Kamissoko gives Syracuse the type of size and versatility coaches want from the modern wing position.

His combination of length, athletic ability and potential gives McNamara a player who could eventually impact the game in several areas. Rather than being limited to one position, Kamissoko has the physical tools to create matchup possibilities on both ends of the floor.

That versatility could be especially important as Syracuse continues shaping its roster around McNamara’s vision.

Kamissoko also represents something bigger for the Orange on the recruiting trail.

Landing a five-star prospect as the first commitment of the 2027 class sends a message that Syracuse intends to compete for some of the country’s top high school talent. It gives McNamara an early centerpiece who could also help create momentum with other 2027 prospects.

A Major Start for Syracuse’s 2027 Class

There is still plenty of time before Kamissoko arrives on campus, and Syracuse’s 2027 recruiting class is only beginning to take shape.

But this is exactly the type of commitment that can get a class started.

Syracuse now has a highly regarded 6-foot-7 forward who believes in McNamara’s development plan, likes the culture surrounding the program and wants the opportunity to play under the bright lights of the Dome.

For McNamara and the Orange, landing Moussa Kamissoko is a strong opening statement for the 2027 recruiting cycle.
