The Las Vegas Aces and Los Angeles Sparks met once again Tuesday night in Los Angeles in a rematch of an entertaining showdown from just over a week ago in Las Vegas.
In that previous meeting, former Ace and current Sparks guard Kelsey Plum put on a spectacular performance against her former team, exploding for a season-high 38 points to help Los Angeles pull off a 101-95 upset victory.
This time, however, Plum watched from the sidelines as she continues to recover from an ankle injury. The Sparks star is currently listed as day-to-day, leaving Los Angeles without one of its primary offensive weapons.
Despite Plum’s absence, the Sparks received a strong performance from Rae Burrell. Burrell was aggressive from the opening tip, scoring 16 of her career-high 22 points during the first half and helping keep Los Angeles within striking distance.
The Aces, though, had an answer in the form of reigning superstar A’ja Wilson.
Wilson delivered another dominant performance, finishing with a monster double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds. She controlled the paint on both ends of the floor, providing the leadership and production Las Vegas needed to bounce back from its earlier loss to Los Angeles.
Las Vegas gradually took control in the second half, tightening its defense and limiting the Sparks’ offensive opportunities. The Aces’ ability to dominate the glass and execute in key moments helped them create separation down the stretch.
With Wilson leading the charge, the Aces secured a 79-69 victory and earned a measure of revenge against their Western Conference rivals.
For Los Angeles, Burrell’s breakout performance was a bright spot as the Sparks continue to navigate injuries and search for consistency. The return of Plum could provide a significant boost as the season progresses.
Meanwhile, the Aces showed why they remain one of the WNBA’s elite teams. Behind Wilson’s dominance and a strong defensive effort, Las Vegas left Los Angeles with an important road win and a split in the season series.
