Freshman seasons can be unpredictable, especially when a program is adjusting to a new coaching staff and a new group of players. For Deshawn Deyampert of Roosevelt High School in San Bernardino, California, the class of 2029 guard is learning that growth takes patience, consistency, and attention to detail. The progress is starting to show.
As the season has moved forward, Deyampert has begun to find his rhythm and confidence. His recent performances reflect a young player becoming more comfortable with the varsity level. He scored seventeen points with three steals against Norco, followed by ten points and five rebounds versus Corona. More than the numbers, his overall impact on the game has continued to improve.
“This season I am learning to do all the little things on the court,” Deyampert said. “The season has been up and down with the team, especially with a new coaching staff and new players. In these past games I have come alive. I am starting to find a rhythm and I am just trying to stack days and get better every single day.”
That mindset is a strong foundation for long term development. Deyampert has shown a willingness to defend, rebound, and stay engaged even when the offense is not flowing. He understands that doing the small things consistently is what leads to trust from coaches and growth as a player.
Physically, he is already focused on the next step. Deyampert is committed to getting stronger in the weight room, knowing that added strength will elevate his game on both ends of the floor. Defense is an area he takes pride in, aiming to be reliable, competitive, and a strong presence every time he steps on the court.
“I am looking to grow by getting stronger in the weight room, being the best I can be on and off the floor, being a great teammate, and playing the best defense I possibly can,” he said.
Looking ahead, this summer will be an important stage in his development. Deyampert is set to play with the Oakland Soldiers EYBL fifteen and under team, where he will compete against top level talent from across the country. The experience will challenge him, push his growth, and provide valuable exposure as he continues to develop.
For now, the focus remains on daily improvement. Deshawn Deyampert is still early in his high school journey, but his approach, work ethic, and steady progress suggest a player who is on track to rise into elite discussions in the years ahead. His breakout is not a question of if, but when.
