Tai Bell: A Rising Two-Way Force Ready for the National Stage

The name Bell carries weight in basketball circles, and Class of 2028 guard Tai Bell is quickly carving out his own legacy. The 6-foot-3 point guard from Mater Lakes Academy in Hialeah, Florida, is the son of former NBA veteran Raja Bell, and you can already see the pedigree in the way he approaches the game. But Tai is proving that he isn’t just following a path — he’s building one.

Coming off a strong 2024–25 season, Bell averaged 25.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.8 steals per game. He shot 49 percent from the field and 33 percent from deep, doing a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor. Mater Lakes asked a lot from him, and he delivered at every level, consistently showing leadership, toughness, and the ability to carry his team in big moments.

What makes Bell stand out at such a young age is his dynamic two-way impact. He’s a gifted scorer who attacks the basket with purpose, finishes through contact, and uses his strength to create advantages against smaller guards. His pull-up jumper continues to improve, and he’s comfortable scoring from all three levels. Bell plays with a patient handle and a steady pace, rarely looking rushed, and he sees the floor like a seasoned guard. Whether he’s hitting shooters in the corner, dropping a dime in transition, or initiating sets, his feel for the game continues to separate him from others in his class.

On defense, Bell takes pride in competing. He uses his size and length to disrupt ball-handlers, rebounds like a forward, and is rarely out of position. The effort is always there, and that’s a trait you can trace back to his upbringing. Defense is part of the Bell family identity, and Tai embraces it.

This summer, Bell is focused on expanding his game and proving that he belongs on the biggest stages. Running with SOH Elite on the Under Armour circuit, he has already shown flashes of what makes him one of the more intriguing young guards in the country. The pace, the poise, the physicality, and the ability to impact winning — it’s all there.

College programs are taking notice. Bell recently picked up a major offer from Florida State, adding to an already impressive list that now includes Houston, Purdue, Syracuse, St. Bonaventure, Florida A&M, Dayton, Kansas State, USF, Jacksonville, and Old Dominion. With each game, that list is expected to grow.

Bell has all the intangibles you look for in a long-term prospect. His approach, competitiveness, and rapidly developing skill set suggest that his best basketball is still ahead of him. As he continues to mature physically and refine his craft, he’s positioned to become one of the most complete guards in the 2028 class.

For now, Tai Bell is focused on the work. This summer is his opportunity to show the country even more of his game — and if his trajectory continues, we’ll be talking a whole lot more about him in the years to come.
