Coming off a heart-stopping double overtime victory against the Seattle Storm on the road, the Los Angeles Sparks returned home fueled and determined to turn their season around. Despite struggling on their own court this year — dropping nine of their last twelve home games — the Sparks showcased resilience and teamwork in a critical matchup against the Indiana Fever.
The Fever entered the game without their star Catlin Clark, but with two other superstars in Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston ready to carry the load. The Sparks, however, came out strong, executing a solid game plan that had them leading 54-43 at halftime.
By the final stretch of the third quarter, the Sparks had built a commanding 90-68 advantage with just over six minutes remaining. It seemed like the victory was all but secured. But the Fever refused to fold. Fueled by the dynamic duo of Mitchell and Boston, Indiana mounted an impressive 21-5 run that closed the gap to a nail-biting 95-89 with just two minutes left on the clock.
Despite the late surge, the Sparks leaned on the clutch performances of Kelsey Plum and Rickea Jackson, who both poured in 25 points apiece. Plum was also a key facilitator, dishing out 11 assists to keep the offense flowing smoothly.
The Sparks ultimately sealed the win, 100-91, behind balanced scoring — four starters finished with double-digit points — and an efficient shooting night, knocking down 50% of their attempts from beyond the arc.
For the Fever, Kelsey Mitchell led the charge with a game-high 34 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Sparks’ collective effort on their home court.
This crucial victory keeps Los Angeles’ postseason dreams very much alive as they continue to battle for a playoff spot. With the way they’re playing — resilient, sharp, and connected — the Sparks are sending a message to the rest of the league: they’re not done yet.
